Overview
Databricks is hiring a Staff Software Engineer to work on Distributed Data Systems. You'll leverage technologies like Apache Spark, Java, and Python to build and maintain a robust data infrastructure. This position requires significant experience in software engineering and distributed systems.
Job Description
Who you are
You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly with distributed systems — you've designed and implemented scalable data solutions that handle large volumes of data efficiently. Your expertise in Java and Python allows you to build robust applications that meet high-performance standards.
You are well-versed in cloud technologies, particularly AWS, and have experience with container orchestration using Kubernetes — you understand how to deploy and manage applications in a cloud environment. Your familiarity with Apache Spark enables you to work effectively with big data processing frameworks.
You possess strong problem-solving skills and can troubleshoot complex issues in distributed systems — your analytical mindset helps you identify bottlenecks and optimize performance. You are also comfortable working with SQL and Elasticsearch, which are essential for data querying and indexing.
Your communication skills are excellent, allowing you to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams — you can articulate technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and work closely with data scientists and product managers.
Desirable
Experience with Docker and CI/CD practices is a plus, as it enhances your ability to streamline development workflows. Familiarity with data governance and security practices will also be beneficial in ensuring compliance and data integrity.
What you'll do
As a Staff Software Engineer at Databricks, you will be responsible for designing and implementing distributed data systems that support our data and AI infrastructure platform — your work will directly impact how our customers solve complex problems using data. You will collaborate with engineering teams to build scalable solutions that can handle millions of requests and process terabytes of data daily.
You will lead technical discussions and code reviews, mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of excellence within the team — your leadership will help shape the technical direction of our projects. You will also work closely with product managers to understand customer needs and translate them into technical requirements.
Your role will involve optimizing existing systems for performance and reliability, ensuring that our infrastructure can gracefully handle cloud hardware and network faults — you will implement best practices for monitoring and incident response to maintain high availability.
What we offer
At Databricks, we provide a dynamic work environment where innovation is encouraged — you will have the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technologies and contribute to projects that have a significant impact on the industry. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and opportunities for professional development.
Join us in our mission to empower data teams around the world — your contributions will help shape the future of data and AI technology. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
