Overview
DoorDash is hiring a Senior Motor Control Engineer to design and test control algorithms for delivery robots. You'll work with MATLAB and Simulink to optimize powertrain performance across various testing environments. This role requires a strong background in power electronics and robotics.
Job Description
Who you are
You have a BS/MS degree in Power Electronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, and possess a deep understanding of control algorithms for Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (PMSM). With experience in model-based design methodology, you are adept at using MATLAB and Simulink for developing and testing control systems. You thrive in a collaborative environment and are excited about applying robotics solutions to real-world challenges. You are proactive in seeking improvements in development processes and testing methods, ensuring high performance in robotic systems.
Desirable
Experience with field-oriented control (FOC) and low-level diagnostics algorithms is a plus. Familiarity with closed-loop simulation and dyno testing will enhance your ability to tune control algorithms effectively. You are comfortable defining and solving new problems, demonstrating a willingness to learn and adapt as needed.
What you'll do
In this role, you will design and implement control algorithms for PMSM, focusing on optimizing the powertrain's performance through rigorous testing. You will build infrastructure, including plant and functional models, to systematically verify the behavior of control laws and algorithms using Simulink. Your responsibilities will include conducting component testing on dynos, performing simulations, and executing end-to-end road testing to ensure the delivery robot operates at peak efficiency. You will collaborate closely with internal teams, including robot operations and autonomy software, to exceed their needs and expectations. Continuous improvement will be a key focus, as you will seek to enhance testing methods and bug triage processes to elevate robot performance.
What we offer
At DoorDash, you will be part of a pioneering team exploring robotics and automation to transform last-mile logistics. We offer a dynamic work environment where innovation is encouraged, and your contributions will directly impact the service used by millions. You will have opportunities for professional growth and development, working alongside talented individuals who share your passion for technology and robotics. We value diversity and encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement. Join us in shaping the future of delivery services.
