Overview

Formlabs is hiring a SLS Materials Scientist to lead the development of world-class SLS materials for 3D printing. You'll collaborate with product, hardware, and software teams to enhance material performance. This role requires experience in materials science and polymer product development.

Job Description

Who you are

You have experience bringing a new material to market from ideation to production — you've navigated the complexities of material development and understand the challenges involved in transitioning from lab to real-world applications. Your solid understanding of the fundamentals of materials science and polymer product development allows you to innovate effectively in this space.

Hands-on experience in thermo-plastic engineering is essential — you enjoy testing and troubleshooting, and you're not afraid to conduct hundreds of experiments to achieve optimal results. You love to harness data; designing and conducting rigorous experiments to optimize materials is second nature to you. You can work autonomously and thrive in a collaborative environment.

What you'll do

In this role, you will build world-class SLS materials for 3D printing, starting from initial lab explorations to validation and commercialization. You will lead research that pushes the boundaries of SLS material performance, turning discoveries into next-generation solutions. Partnering with product, hardware, and software teams, you will iterate and improve material performance based on customer feedback, ensuring that the materials meet the evolving needs of users.

You will develop methodologies to evaluate material formulations in coordination with SLS print systems, balancing material chemistry, thermal dynamics, and printing parameters. Your work will directly impact how Formlabs continues to innovate in the 3D printing space, helping to shape the future of fabrication.

What we offer

At Formlabs, you will receive equity in the form of RSUs, and your financial investment will grow with us in accordance with your impact. The base pay for this role ranges from $110,000 to $160,000 USD, depending on your skills, qualifications, experience, and expected impact on the organization. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
