Who you are

You have 8 years of experience in software engineering, with a strong command of C/C++, Java/Kotlin, or Python — you've designed and launched software products, demonstrating your expertise in software design and architecture. Your technical leadership experience spans at least 3 years, where you've overseen project execution and collaborated with multiple teams to deliver impactful features.

Your background includes developing for the Android platform, where you've worked with its frameworks, system services, or software/hardware architectures — you understand the intricacies of low-level systems software, including kernel and driver development, and how software interacts with hardware. A Master's degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field is preferred, showcasing your commitment to advancing your technical knowledge.

You are familiar with Linux kernel software development and debugging, and you have experience with system components like CPU, GPU, TPU/NPU, memory, and PCIe — your collaborative nature allows you to work effectively across organizations to move architectural designs into production. You thrive in environments that require innovative thinking and problem-solving skills, and you are eager to contribute to Google's mission of developing next-generation technologies.

Desirable

Experience in software/hardware co-design or influencing hardware design from a software perspective would be a plus — you are comfortable navigating complex technical discussions and translating them into actionable plans. What you'll do

As a Staff Software Engineer at Google, you will lead the design and development of prototype and production software across the Android stack, including kernel, BSP, framework, and application layers — your work will prove the feasibility of designs and contribute to the development of embedded software stacks running inside Google SoCs. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure that architectural designs are effectively implemented and launched.

Your role will involve overseeing project execution, mentoring junior engineers, and driving technical discussions that influence the direction of software and hardware integration — you will be responsible for ensuring that the software you develop meets the high standards expected at Google.
