Who you are

You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems at scale — you've owned services from design through deployment and have tackled complex distributed systems challenges. Your expertise in Java and Python allows you to create robust backend solutions that support high-volume customer interactions. You are familiar with AWS and have experience deploying applications in cloud environments, ensuring they are scalable and reliable.

You understand the importance of containerization and orchestration, having worked with Docker and Kubernetes to manage microservices effectively. Your knowledge of REST APIs enables you to design and implement interfaces that facilitate seamless communication between services. You are also comfortable with databases, particularly PostgreSQL, and know how to optimize queries for performance.

What you'll do

As a Senior Backend Engineer at Lyft, you will be at the forefront of transforming how customer support is delivered. You will design and implement a unified platform that integrates AI capabilities, allowing customer care agents to provide exceptional support experiences. Your role will involve collaborating with cross-functional teams to define product strategy and ensure that the platform meets the needs of both agents and customers.

You will own critical systems end-to-end, ensuring they are resilient and performant. This includes working on real-time data streaming and omnichannel vendor platform engineering. You will also be responsible for integrating cutting-edge AI technologies, such as large language models, to enhance agent productivity and decision-making.

In this role, you will influence the technical direction of the team, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement. Lyft offers a competitive salary range of $148,000 - $185,000, not including potential equity offerings, bonuses, or benefits.
