Overview

Nuro is seeking a Senior Software Engineer for Collision Avoidance Testing to evaluate the performance of autonomous vehicles. You'll work with Java, Python, and C++ to design and analyze tests for collision scenarios. This role requires strong experience in software engineering and machine learning.

Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in testing and evaluating complex systems. Your background includes working with autonomous vehicles or similar technologies, and you have a strong understanding of collision avoidance algorithms and testing methodologies. You are proficient in programming languages such as Java, Python, and C++, and you have experience with data analysis and simulation tools. You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working closely with cross-functional teams to achieve common goals. You are detail-oriented and have a knack for identifying gaps in testing scenarios, ensuring comprehensive coverage of all potential collision situations.

Desirable

Experience with machine learning frameworks and techniques is a plus, as is familiarity with industry standards for vehicle safety testing. You are comfortable working with large datasets and have a strong analytical mindset, allowing you to derive insights from complex data. A background in automotive engineering or robotics would be beneficial, as would experience in developing simulation environments for testing.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be responsible for designing and implementing tests for collision avoidance scenarios, utilizing both on-road and simulation data. You will work closely with the onboard autonomy and data science teams to evaluate the performance of the autonomous vehicle in various scenarios. Your tasks will include identifying gaps in existing tests, designing new structured test scenarios, and analyzing the results to recommend product changes. You will also be involved in reporting on residual risks to leadership and contributing to the safety case documentation. Collaboration with the operations and simulation teams will be key to ensuring that the tests are realistic and comprehensive.
