You have 4+ years of experience working with PostgreSQL at scale, demonstrating a deep understanding of database architecture and reliability. Your solid experience with MySQL complements your expertise, allowing you to design and optimize data persistence layers effectively. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE), Platform, and Engineering teams to ensure operational excellence across database environments.

You possess strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to building resilient data infrastructure. Your experience includes designing highly available PostgreSQL clusters, implementing physical and logical replication, and automating failover processes. You are adept at optimizing query performance, indexing strategies, and schema design, ensuring that the databases you manage are efficient and reliable.

You are a lifelong learner, eager to stay updated with the latest database technologies and best practices. What you'll do

In this role, you will design, operationalize, and optimize the data persistence layer that powers Okta's large-scale, mission-critical systems. You will be responsible for implementing and operating highly available PostgreSQL clusters, ensuring that they meet performance and reliability standards. Your work will involve optimizing query performance and implementing indexing strategies that enhance data retrieval efficiency.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including SRE and Engineering, to ensure that the database environment supports the needs of the organization. Your responsibilities will include designing failover automation processes and ensuring that the databases are resilient to failures. You will also play a key role in monitoring database performance and implementing improvements based on your findings.

Your contributions will directly impact the reliability and performance of Okta's systems, making you an integral part of the engineering team. You will have the opportunity to mentor junior engineers and share your knowledge of best practices in database management.
