You have 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a focus on backend systems — you've built and scaled systems from early stages to large-scale deployments, ensuring they are robust and performant. Your deep understanding of backend systems allows you to maintain end-to-end context, guiding technical decisions that best serve the product and team.
You thrive in collaborative environments and care deeply about building systems that scale — your experience has taught you the importance of balancing near-term development velocity with long-term maintainability. You are proficient with Python, which you have used extensively to design APIs and data models that meet evolving product needs.
What you'll do
As a Backend Engineer at OpenAI, you will architect, build, and maintain high-performance, secure backend systems that power our consumer products. You will design APIs and infrastructure that support the evolving needs of our products, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to ensure cohesive, end-to-end solutions. Your role will involve making technical decisions that align with both immediate project goals and long-term strategic objectives.
