Skydio is seeking an Electric Motor / Propulsion Engineer to model and optimize electric propulsion systems for drones. You'll work with MATLAB, Simulink, and programming languages like C and Python. This role requires strong expertise in electric motor technologies and on-site presence in San Mateo, California.
Job Description
Who you are
You have a strong mathematical and physical understanding of motor power and loss mechanisms — your expertise allows you to model, architect, and optimize propulsion systems effectively. You possess excellent knowledge of the finite element method, which you apply to analyze and improve motor designs. Your experience includes electric motor loss characterization, enabling you to develop test plans and perform precise measurements. You understand motor control theory, which is crucial for integrating propulsion systems with electronic speed controllers (ESCs). Your familiarity with construction and manufacturing processes enhances your ability to design innovative motor technologies that are both efficient and practical.
Desirable
You have a background in detailed motor design and optimization, focusing on performance, efficiency, and size. Your ability to create simulation models for thermal development and system engineering is a valuable asset. You thrive in collaborative environments, integrating and optimizing designs with motor control teams and ESCs to achieve superior results.
