Skydio is seeking an Electrical Engineering Intern to help prototype and develop electrical systems for autonomous drones. You'll work with Altium Designer, Arduino, and Embedded Linux in San Mateo.

Job Description

Who you are

You are currently pursuing a degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, and you have a solid understanding of electronic hardware development. Your experience includes schematic design, PCB layout, and prototyping, which you have applied in academic or project settings. You are comfortable with hands-on work, including assembly and debugging of custom circuit boards, and you enjoy collaborating with cross-functional teams to solve complex engineering challenges.

You have a foundational knowledge of low-voltage electronic systems and are eager to learn more about power distribution, battery management, and motor control. Your ability to communicate effectively with mechanical, firmware, and software teams will help you contribute to building reliable test and validation systems. You are detail-oriented and have a knack for troubleshooting and failure analysis, which will be essential in supporting system integration and test activities.

Desirable

Experience with tools like LabVIEW or MATLAB is a plus, as is familiarity with embedded systems. If you have worked on projects involving drones or robotics, that would be an added advantage. You are enthusiastic about the field of autonomous flight and are excited to be part of a team that is pushing the boundaries of technology.

What you'll do

As an Electrical Engineering Intern at Skydio, you will take ownership of various aspects of low-voltage electronic hardware development. This includes specification, schematic design, PCB layout, prototyping, and fabrication of electrical systems for our autonomous fixed-wing drone. You will perform hands-on bring-up, assembly, and debugging of custom circuit boards, ensuring they meet the required specifications for testing and validation.

You will collaborate closely with mechanical, firmware, reliability, software, and electrical teams to build reliable test and validation systems. Your role will involve developing and testing PCBAs for subsystems such as power distribution, battery management, sensing, motor control, and computing. You will participate in schematic, layout, and BOM reviews, providing valuable feedback on designs developed both internally and externally.

Additionally, you will support system integration and test activities through test execution, troubleshooting, and failure analysis. This internship will provide you with hands-on experience in a cutting-edge field and the opportunity to work alongside world-class engineers who are passionate about advancing drone technology.

What we offer

At Skydio, you will be part of a dynamic team that is at the forefront of the drone industry. We offer a collaborative work environment where you can learn from experienced professionals and contribute to innovative projects. This internship will provide you with valuable experience that can help shape your future career in electrical engineering. You will have the chance to work on real-world challenges and see the impact of your contributions firsthand. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
