Overview

SpaceX is hiring a Structures Technician (Composites) to trim, finish, and assemble composite and metallic structures. You'll work with tools and techniques for surface preparation and fastener applications in Hawthorne, CA.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong foundation in working with composite and metallic materials, demonstrating hands-on experience in assembly and finishing processes. Your familiarity with tools and techniques for surface preparation, including grit blasting and hand abrasion, sets you apart. You understand the importance of precision in aligning parts and securing them using clecos or clamps, ensuring that every assembly meets the required specifications. You are detail-oriented, capable of checking for good edge margins and alignment, and selecting the correct tools for drilling and countersinking holes. Your ability to handle and dispose of hazardous materials safely is essential in this role.

You are comfortable with the technical aspects of the job, including the use of tooling holes and pilot holes as per drawings or tooling instructions. Your experience in repairing composite defects and cold working holes for close tolerance fastener installation showcases your problem-solving skills. You are adept at using various tools, such as drill motors and deburring tools, to prepare parts for installation. Your commitment to safety and quality is evident in your approach to loading and unloading ovens for bonding detail parts to assemblies.

What you'll do

As a Structures Technician (Composites) at SpaceX, you will be responsible for trimming and finishing composite and metallic assemblies, ensuring that each component meets the high standards set by the company. You will assemble structures, which includes setup, bonding, and applying fasteners with precision. Your role will involve surface preparation using various techniques, and you will be tasked with repairing any composite defects that arise during the manufacturing process. You will align parts and secure them in place, checking for proper margins and alignment before proceeding with drilling and countersinking operations.

You will select the appropriate drill bits and reamers for pilot and full-size holes, ensuring that all operations are performed in the correct sequence and to the correct size. Disassembling parts and deburring holes will be part of your routine, as you prepare for the installation of fasteners. You will also be responsible for loading and unloading ovens to bond detail parts to assemblies, handling hazardous materials in an approved manner. Your attention to detail will be crucial as you install bushings into housings and apply liquid nitrogen to facilitate this process. You will work closely with other technicians and engineers to ensure that all assemblies are completed efficiently and to the highest quality standards.

What we offer
