Job Description
Who you are
You have a strong background in mechanical assembly and fabrication, with hands-on experience in modifying and repairing complex structures. You are familiar with operating sheet metal manufacturing equipment such as CNCs and brake presses, and you understand the importance of precision in aerospace applications. Your ability to work with advanced manufacturing equipment, including robots and welders, sets you apart as a candidate. You are detail-oriented and capable of following technical drawings and specifications to ensure the highest quality in your work.
You possess a solid understanding of mechanical fasteners and the correct tools to use for installation, such as rivet guns and drill motors. Your experience includes performing routine maintenance on tooling and equipment, ensuring everything operates smoothly and efficiently. You are comfortable with testing operations on rocket and spacecraft structures, including pressurized and fatigue testing, and you know how to shim and trim parts as required.
What you'll do
As a Structures Technician at SpaceX, you will be responsible for modifying, repairing, and assembling rocket and spacecraft components. You will align parts and secure them in place using clecos or tooling/hand clamps, ensuring that every component meets the stringent standards of aerospace engineering. Your role will involve operating and utilizing various manufacturing equipment, including CNC machines and advanced robotics, to fabricate parts accurately.
You will perform routine maintenance procedures on tooling and equipment, ensuring they remain in optimal condition for production. Your responsibilities will also include installing mechanical fasteners in the correct sequence per drawings, using the appropriate tools to achieve a secure and reliable assembly. You will facilitate and conduct testing operations on components and assemblies, ensuring they meet safety and performance standards.
In addition to your technical skills, you will collaborate with engineers and other technicians to troubleshoot issues and improve manufacturing processes. Your attention to detail and commitment to quality will play a crucial role in the success of SpaceX's mission to enable human life on Mars.
