Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering and possess a strong foundation in mechanical design principles. Your experience includes thermal, structural, and tolerance analysis for electro-mechanical assemblies, and you are proficient in using tools like AutoCAD and SolidWorks for 3D modeling and production drawings. You understand the importance of reliability in design and have a keen eye for detail, ensuring that your designs can withstand harsh mechanical and thermal environments.

You have experience interfacing with machine shops and production teams, ensuring that your designs are not only innovative but also manufacturable. Your analytical skills allow you to conduct failure analysis of components, considering factors such as thermal loads, vibration, and shock. You are comfortable leading design reviews and collaborating with suppliers and customers to meet project goals.

What you'll do

As a Mechanical Engineer on the Starship Avionics team, you will be responsible for designing packaging solutions that protect electronics from the harsh conditions of launch vehicle operations. You will participate in the initial mechanical design phase, creating 3D models and production drawings while maintaining design data throughout the project lifecycle. Your role will involve conducting thermal and structural analysis to ensure that designs meet weight and rate targets.

You will own the hardware delivery timeline, guiding projects from inception through design, assembly, testing, and integration. Your responsibilities will include leading design reviews and ensuring that all designs align with overall project goals. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including production and machine shops, to ensure that your designs are feasible and can be produced efficiently.
