SpaceX is hiring a Soft Goods Technician (Composites) to produce insulation and thermal protection products for the Falcon and Dragon programs. You'll work with various materials and automated machinery in Hawthorne, CA.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a keen interest in working with diverse materials and possess a foundational understanding of sewing and hardware installation. Your ability to follow written work instructions and perform basic shop math will help you excel in this role. You are comfortable handling a range of fabrics, including felt, silicone rubber, Kevlar, and fiberglass, and you have a strong attention to detail when cutting materials to specified tolerances.

You are eager to learn and develop a diverse skillset, from operating automated machinery to stitching components by hand or machine. Your familiarity with engineering drawings will enable you to accurately assemble products, and you are committed to maintaining a safe and organized workspace. You understand the importance of quality in production and are motivated to contribute to SpaceX's mission of enabling human life on Mars.

What you'll do

As a Soft Goods Technician, you will prepare work by gathering and sorting materials and tools necessary for production. You will handle various fabrics and materials, cutting them from templates and patterns, either by hand or using an automated cutting table. Following written work instructions, you will perform basic shop math and measurements to ensure accuracy in assembly. You will locate and punch holes through heavy materials and install hardware such as rivets, grommets, snaps, zippers, and fasteners.

Your role will also involve safely mixing and applying two-part adhesives to bond, seal, and gap-fill components. You will stitch components and materials using a sewing machine or by hand, adjusting machine performance as needed by observing operations and detecting malfunctions. Your contributions will be vital in producing high-quality insulation and thermal protection products for SpaceX's Falcon and Dragon programs.
