Overview

SpaceX is seeking a Falcon 9 Operations & Automation Engineer to oversee the integration and launch of Falcon 9 flight vehicles. You'll develop procedures and lead hands-on assembly while collaborating with engineering teams. This role requires expertise in automation and engineering principles.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in engineering, with experience in operations and automation — you've successfully managed complex projects and understand the intricacies of rocket assembly and testing. Your technical skills include proficiency in C, C++, and Python, which you have applied in real-world scenarios to enhance operational efficiency. You are familiar with AWS and have experience with embedded systems, which allows you to design and develop tools that facilitate vehicle assembly. Your knowledge of AutoCAD and mechanical engineering principles enables you to create effective designs for hardware used in testing and assembly processes. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with field technicians and engineering staff to ensure the highest standards of quality and reliability in flight hardware processing.

Desirable

Experience with electrical engineering concepts and Linux systems is a plus, as it complements your existing skill set and enhances your ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues during operations. Familiarity with aerospace standards and practices will further strengthen your candidacy.

What you'll do

In this role, you will be responsible for processing Falcon 9 flight vehicles, focusing on rapid and reliable rocket re-use. You will develop and execute procedures for the checkout and integration of both new and flight-proven rockets, ensuring that all systems are ready for launch. Leading hands-on assembly and integration, you will collaborate with engineering teams across various departments to address off-nominal test results and guarantee flight readiness. Your leadership will guide field technicians in their daily tasks, ensuring that all operations run smoothly and efficiently. You will also design and develop tools and hardware that facilitate vehicle assembly and conduct thorough vehicle system testing. Identifying high-risk processes and implementing improvements will be a key part of your responsibilities, as will leading investigations into root causes of any issues that arise during flight hardware processing. You will manage work orders and drive non-conformances into actionable items, contributing to continuous system improvements.
