Overview
SpaceX is seeking a Principal Engineer for the Starship project to lead interdisciplinary trades and mentor team members. This role requires a strong background in engineering and leadership experience in aerospace or related fields.
Job Description
Who you are
You have a Bachelor's degree in engineering and over 8 years of professional experience, with at least 7 years leading teams to produce engineering products. Your background includes working with launch vehicles, space vehicles, command and control systems, and ground/space sensor systems. You possess excellent written and verbal communication skills, with direct experience in negotiation and stakeholder management. Your leadership style fosters a scrappy, positive, and hardware-rich culture within your team, driving urgency towards making humanity a space-faring civilization.
Desirable
A Masterβs degree in aerospace engineering or a relevant engineering discipline is preferred. You have a proven track record of capturing and distilling customer mission requirements into actionable development objectives and verification plans. Your experience includes developing system requirements and interface control documents based on trade study results, ensuring that technical contract deliverables meet customer expectations.
What you'll do
As a Principal Engineer at SpaceX, you will lead and arbitrate interdisciplinary trades, making critical architectural decisions that impact the Starship program. You will be responsible for reporting program status and risks regularly, both internally and externally. Your role will involve hiring and mentoring individual contributors and people leaders within the Starship team, fostering a culture of excellence and collaboration. You will capture customer mission requirements from various external stakeholders and translate them into actionable objectives, ensuring that the team delivers on time and meets expectations.
You will lead reviews with customers, ensuring that all technical deliverables align with their requirements. Your leadership will be crucial in setting the direction for the team, guiding them through complex engineering challenges while maintaining a focus on innovation and efficiency. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that all aspects of the Starship project are aligned and progressing towards the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.
