Job Description
Who you are
You have a strong background in engineering, particularly in propulsion systems, with experience in designing and analyzing fluid systems for high-performance vehicles. Your expertise includes mechanical design and structural analysis, ensuring that systems are both efficient and manufacturable. You are proficient in CAD software, particularly AutoCAD, and have experience with MATLAB for simulations and analysis. You understand the complexities of high-pressure gas storage and cryogenic fluid management, and you are familiar with the operational requirements for interplanetary vehicles.
You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working with cross-functional teams to drive projects from concept to completion. Your problem-solving skills enable you to tackle challenges in system design and implementation, and you are committed to ensuring the reliability and safety of propulsion systems. You are detail-oriented and have a strong understanding of manufacturing processes, which allows you to execute design for manufacturability changes effectively.
Desirable
Experience with aerospace systems or similar high-stakes environments is a plus. Familiarity with thermal control systems and attitude control systems will enhance your ability to contribute to the team. What you'll do
As a Propulsion Engineer at SpaceX, you will be responsible for developing fluid systems that are critical to the performance of the Starship and Super Heavy vehicles. Your role will involve sizing vehicle fluid systems and transforming system requirements into hardware concepts. You will engage in detailed mechanical design, creating original CAD models and prints to support your designs. Performing structural analysis of parts and components will be a key responsibility, ensuring that all systems meet safety and performance standards.
You will drive the manufacturing and build flow of parts and systems, collaborating closely with manufacturing teams to enhance production efficiency. Your work will include developing the concept of operations for your systems, from acceptance testing to in-flight operations, ensuring that all systems function as intended during missions. You will also participate in testing and validation processes, providing insights and recommendations based on your analyses.
