Who you are

You have a strong background in mechanical engineering with experience in designing and developing mechanisms for complex systems. You are skilled in AutoCAD and MATLAB, allowing you to create detailed designs and perform necessary analyses. Your understanding of space-grade components and their specifications is crucial, as is your ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team of engineers. You are adept at conducting research to solve engineering problems and can analyze existing designs to propose improvements based on scientific principles and industry best practices. You have experience in developing test plans and procedures, ensuring that mechanisms meet performance, safety, and reliability standards. You are detail-oriented and consider factors such as weight, reliability, environmental effects, and precision in your designs.

What you'll do

As a Mechanism Engineer at The Exploration Company, you will be responsible for the conceptualization, design, and development of space mechanisms for the Nyx project. You will create innovative solutions for critical components, contributing to the specifications and supplier selection for mechanisms. Your role will involve performing kinematic, torque, and force analysis to ensure that designs meet the required standards. You will collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines, sharing insights and integrating feedback into your designs. Additionally, you will conduct research to address complex engineering challenges and analyze existing designs to identify areas for improvement. Testing and validation will be a key part of your responsibilities, as you will develop test plans and procedures to validate mechanisms through ground-based testing and simulations. You will ensure that all mechanisms meet the necessary performance, safety, and reliability standards, documenting your findings and recommendations throughout the process.
