Overview

Turion Space is hiring a Lead Site Reliability Engineer to build monitoring and reliability systems for satellite communications. You'll work with observability tools and lead efforts to ensure 24/7 operations. This role requires 5+ years of experience in production operations.

Job Description

Who you are

You have 5+ years of relevant hands-on experience in production operations and 1-2+ years in a technical leadership role — you thrive in environments where you can work across multiple engineering disciplines and with diverse teams, demonstrating strong communication skills and the ability to operate with minimal oversight. Your experience includes working with observability tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, Loki, Alloy, and ELK in production environments, ensuring that you can effectively monitor and maintain system reliability.

You possess hands-on experience with disaster recovery planning, failure mode analysis, and building resilient systems with automated failover and recovery — your familiarity with identity and secrets management systems like HashiCorp Vault and Okta further enhances your capability to secure and manage sensitive information. You have a proven track record of scaling infrastructure at high-growth companies, ideally from startup to over 100 employees, which equips you with the insights needed to navigate the challenges of rapid expansion.

Your Linux system administration experience and understanding of networking fundamentals allow you to troubleshoot and optimize systems effectively — you are passionate about space technology and eager to contribute to mission-critical satellite operations, making you an ideal fit for this role.

What you'll do

In this role, you will help build the observability infrastructure that ensures Turion's space communications systems operate 24/7 for a diverse range of customers, from commercial satellite operators to national security missions. You will collaborate directly with the platform engineering team to establish monitoring, alerting, and deployment practices that will scale with the company as it transitions from a startup to an enterprise-level organization.

As a Lead Site Reliability Engineer, you will evolve from building core monitoring systems to potentially leading teams and architecting global-scale reliability platforms — your contributions will directly impact the reliability and performance of satellite communications, ensuring that systems remain connected to Earth at all times. You will also be responsible for mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of reliability and excellence within the team.

What we offer

Turion Space offers a dynamic work environment where you can engage with cutting-edge space technology and contribute to meaningful projects that have a direct impact on satellite operations. You will have the opportunity to work alongside a talented team of engineers who are passionate about innovation and excellence in the field of space communications. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
