Who you are
You have 5+ years of experience in AI engineering, particularly in developing perception systems for autonomous vehicles. Your background includes a strong understanding of machine learning principles and the ability to apply them to real-world scenarios. You are proficient in Python and have hands-on experience with frameworks such as TensorFlow and Keras, enabling you to build and optimize complex models. Your analytical skills allow you to interpret large datasets effectively, and you are comfortable working with diverse sensor data to enhance perception capabilities.
You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams to integrate perception systems into larger autonomous driving frameworks. Your experience includes conducting research to solve real-world problems, and you are adept at communicating complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. You are passionate about improving mobility and safety through innovative technology and are eager to contribute to a mission-driven organization.
Desirable
Experience with large-scale data processing and analysis is a plus, as is familiarity with simulation environments for autonomous systems. You may have worked on projects involving real-time data processing and optimization of machine learning models for deployment on onboard hardware. A background in robotics or computer vision would also be beneficial, enhancing your ability to contribute to the perception team's goals.
What you'll do
In this role, you will lead the development of perception systems that enable the Waymo Driver to understand and interact with its environment. You will leverage millions of miles of driving data to continuously improve the learning algorithms that power our autonomous vehicles. Your responsibilities will include developing methods for efficiently processing and analyzing large-scale real-world data, as well as optimizing models for both onboard and offboard hardware.
You will collaborate with downstream teams to ensure seamless integration of perception capabilities into the Waymo Driver, contributing to the overall performance and safety of our autonomous ride-hail service. Your work will involve conducting research to address complex challenges in perception and developing innovative solutions that enhance the vehicle's ability to navigate diverse environments.
You will also be responsible for mentoring junior engineers and fostering a culture of continuous learning within the team. By sharing your expertise and insights, you will help elevate the team's capabilities and drive the success of our perception initiatives.
What we offer
Waymo offers a competitive salary range of $238,000—$302,000 USD, along with eligibility for an annual bonus program and equity incentive plan.
