Job Description
Who you are
You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems at scale — you've owned services from design through deployment and have navigated the complexities of distributed systems. Your deep expertise in Java and Python allows you to develop robust backend solutions that support high-performance applications. You understand the importance of low-latency data processing and have experience designing and operating data pipelines for massive-scale simulations and real-world monitoring.
You are a technical lead who has successfully collaborated across teams, working with mobile app developers, cloud engineers, and product managers to deliver business-critical infrastructure. Your experience includes developing hypotheses, designing experiments, and synthesizing conclusions to ensure the long-term stability and health of production systems. You hold a B.Sc., M.Sc., or PhD in Computer Science and have a strong foundation in cloud technologies and distributed systems.
What you'll do
In this role, you will be part of the Waymo Commercialization team, focusing on building the systems that enhance Waymo's core ride-hailing and fleet management capabilities. You will design and operate high-performance, low-latency data pipelines that are crucial for both simulation and real-world monitoring of autonomous vehicles. Your responsibilities will include collaborating with cross-functional teams to tackle complex technical challenges and ensuring that the infrastructure you build is scalable and reliable.
You will also be involved in evaluating the fidelity of simulations and real-world data, ensuring that the Waymo Driver operates at the highest standards of safety and efficiency. As a senior engineer, you will mentor junior team members, guiding them through technical challenges and fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation within the team.
