Who you are
You have a BS degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience, along with 5+ years of backend or infrastructure experience. Your expertise includes backend coding languages such as C++, Python, and Java, and you are eager to tackle challenging problems in fleet optimization and system coordination. You thrive in cross-functional environments, collaborating with Product, UX, and engineering teams to develop innovative solutions that meet evolving business needs.
You possess a strong understanding of backend systems and have experience building production systems at scale. Your background includes working on complex distributed systems, where you've honed your skills in debugging and optimizing performance. You are passionate about autonomous driving technology and are motivated by the opportunity to contribute to a mission that aims to improve mobility and safety.

What you'll do
In this role, you will help build and evolve one or more mission-critical tools and systems that support Waymo's autonomous driving technology. Your responsibilities will include solving complex problems related to fleet optimization, field escalation handling, and workshop management.
You will be involved in designing and implementing backend systems that aggregate information about fleet resources, ensuring efficient coordination of vehicle supply for various business use cases. Your work will directly impact the effectiveness of Waymo's autonomous ride-hail service, contributing to the overall mission of improving access to mobility and enhancing safety on the roads.
As you tackle these challenges, you will have the opportunity to leverage your technical skills in C++, Python, and Java, while also collaborating with cross-functional teams to drive innovation.
