Who you are
You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems at scale β you've owned services from design through deployment and have navigated complex distributed systems issues. You possess deep expertise in C++ and are willing to engage in professional development to stay current with industry knowledge. Your experience includes working in environments with non-technical team members, showcasing your ability to communicate effectively across diverse groups. You have a strong understanding of operations tooling, developer productivity, or developer tools, which enhances your capability to contribute to the teamβs success.
Desirable
Experience with cloud backends and mobile applications is a plus, as is familiarity with fleet management systems. You are product-minded and understand the importance of cross-team collaboration in delivering business-critical infrastructure. Your ability to work with various stakeholders, including operations, product, legal, partnerships, and policy teams, sets you apart as a candidate who can bridge technical and functional domains.
What you'll do
In this role, you will help build and evolve mission-critical horizontal infrastructure and tooling that underpins all commercialization systems for Waymo. You will collaborate with other engineering teams to develop solutions that enhance the Waymo Driver's capabilities. Your work will involve addressing cross-cutting problems that require technical collaboration across mobile apps, cloud backends, and the Waymo Driver itself. You will be responsible for designing systems that improve Waymo's core ride-hailing and fleet management systems, ensuring they are robust and scalable.
You will report to an Engineering Manager and participate in a hybrid work environment, allowing for flexibility in how you contribute to the team. Your contributions will directly impact the future of transportation, as you work on innovative solutions that enhance the safety and efficiency of autonomous driving technology. You will engage in regular code reviews, system architecture discussions, and performance monitoring to ensure the highest quality of deliverables.
