Job Description

Who you are

You have extensive experience in technical leadership, particularly in the field of autonomous systems — you've led teams in developing complex algorithms and optimizing perception models for real-world applications. Your background in software engineering allows you to bridge the gap between theoretical concepts and practical implementations, ensuring that your team delivers high-quality solutions.

You possess a deep understanding of machine learning and deep learning techniques — you've applied these skills to enhance perception systems, enabling autonomous vehicles to interpret their surroundings accurately. Your expertise in robotics complements your software skills, allowing you to tackle challenges that arise in the integration of hardware and software.

You are a collaborative leader who thrives in cross-functional environments — you enjoy working closely with hardware engineers and systems engineers to create cohesive solutions that push the boundaries of autonomous driving technology. Your communication skills enable you to articulate complex ideas clearly, fostering a culture of innovation and teamwork.

You are passionate about advancing the field of autonomous driving — you stay updated on the latest research and trends, and you are eager to apply new findings to improve the Waymo Driver. Your curiosity drives you to explore new methodologies and technologies that can enhance perception optimization.

Desirable

Experience with large-scale data processing and optimization techniques would be a plus — you've worked with extensive datasets to train and validate perception models, ensuring they perform reliably in diverse environments. Familiarity with API development for sensor data integration is also beneficial, as it allows you to streamline data flow to perception algorithms.

What you'll do

As the Staff Technical Lead Manager, you will oversee the Sensor Foundations Team, guiding the development of optimized APIs that provide cleaned-up sensor data to perception models. Your leadership will be crucial in abstracting sensor hardware differences, enabling seamless integration across various platforms. You will lead projects that require a diverse skill set, ensuring that your team is equipped to tackle complex technical challenges.

You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement algorithms that enhance the Waymo Driver's ability to perceive its environment — your insights will directly impact the safety and efficiency of autonomous driving. You will also mentor team members, fostering their professional growth and encouraging innovative thinking.

Your role will involve defining technical strategies and ensuring that projects align with Waymo's mission to improve access to mobility — you will be responsible for setting clear goals and measuring success through key performance indicators. You will also engage with stakeholders to communicate progress and gather feedback, ensuring that the team's efforts are aligned with broader organizational objectives.

What we offer

Waymo provides a competitive salary range of $238,000—$302,000 USD, along with eligibility for an annual bonus program and equity incentive plan. You will have access to generous company benefits, including health and wellness programs, professional development opportunities, and a collaborative work environment that values innovation and creativity. Join us in our mission to revolutionize transportation and make the world a safer place through autonomous driving technology.
