Who you are

You have a Masters or PhD degree in Computer Science, with a strong background in machine learning and robotics. You possess experience in providing technical leadership and mentoring junior engineers, guiding them through complex projects and fostering their professional growth. Your analytical skills allow you to investigate driving behavior issues effectively, understanding root causes and implementing solutions. You are adept at improving the performance of state-of-the-art ML models, ensuring they meet the high standards required for autonomous driving applications. You have a passion for developing foundational frameworks that advance the capabilities of autonomous systems while maintaining interpretability and behavioral guarantees. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with cross-functional teams to achieve shared goals.

Desirable

Experience with large-scale machine learning systems and a deep understanding of the challenges involved in autonomous driving technology would be advantageous. Familiarity with software development best practices and tools is also a plus, as is a proactive approach to problem-solving and innovation.

What you'll do

In this role, you will provide technical leadership for the development of machine learning models specifically for Planner Selection, ensuring that the models are robust and reliable. You will mentor junior engineers, sharing your expertise and guiding them through the intricacies of machine learning and robotics. Your responsibilities will include investigating driving behavior issues by analyzing logs, identifying root causes, and implementing improvements. You will work on enhancing the performance of existing ML models, pushing the boundaries of what is possible in autonomous driving. Additionally, you will develop foundational frameworks that support the advancement of the Waymo Driver's capabilities, ensuring that the technology remains at the forefront of the industry. Collaboration will be key, as you will work closely with various teams to integrate solutions that address real-world driving scenarios.
