You have 8+ years of commercial Java development experience, and you enjoy solving complex problems while designing and building scalable backend services. Your expertise in microservices architecture allows you to evaluate tradeoffs and make informed decisions about technology choices. You thrive in collaborative environments and are eager to contribute to a mission-driven company that aims to redefine global addressing.

Your deep knowledge of Java and frameworks like Spring enables you to create high-performance applications that can handle millions of requests. You are familiar with cloud technologies, particularly AWS, and have experience deploying applications using Kubernetes. Your understanding of databases, especially MySQL and Redis, allows you to optimize data storage and retrieval for maximum efficiency.

You are a proactive communicator who enjoys working closely with cross-functional teams, including product managers and designers, to deliver impactful solutions. You have a strong sense of ownership over your work and are committed to seeing projects through from conception to production.

Desirable

Experience with FastAPI and Docker is a plus, as it complements your existing skill set and enhances your ability to work in a modern development environment. Familiarity with agile methodologies and continuous integration practices will help you adapt quickly to the team's workflow.

What you'll do

As a Staff Backend Engineer at what3words, you will be responsible for designing and implementing scalable backend services that support our innovative addressing solution. You will collaborate with product teams to understand requirements and translate them into technical specifications. Your role will involve evaluating different technologies and making recommendations that align with our product roadmap.

You will lead the development of microservices that are robust and efficient, ensuring they are well-documented and maintainable. Your expertise will guide the team in best practices for coding, testing, and deployment, fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.

In addition to your technical responsibilities, you will mentor junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and helping them grow in their careers. You will participate in code reviews, providing constructive feedback and ensuring that our codebase remains clean and efficient.
