Job Description
Who you are
You are an experienced attorney with a strong background in litigation and regulatory matters — you have successfully managed high-stakes commercial disputes and regulatory investigations, demonstrating your strategic thinking and problem-solving skills. Your ability to work collaboratively across teams is essential, as you will engage with Legal, Public Policy, Trust & Risk, and Communications teams to ensure consistency in regulatory responses and manage litigation risk effectively.
With a minimum of 5 years of experience in a legal role, you have developed a deep understanding of the regulatory landscape affecting e-commerce and online marketplaces. You are adept at navigating complex legal issues and can provide sound legal advice that aligns with business objectives. Your strong communication skills enable you to articulate legal strategies clearly to both legal and non-legal stakeholders.
You thrive in fast-paced environments and are comfortable adapting to the evolving needs of a growing company. Your proactive approach to identifying potential legal risks and your ability to develop strategies to mitigate them will be key to your success in this role. You are committed to fostering a culture of compliance and ethical conduct within the organization.
Desirable
Experience in e-commerce or technology sectors is a plus, as is familiarity with international regulatory frameworks. You are a team player who values diversity and inclusion, and you understand the importance of building strong relationships within and outside the organization.
What you'll do
As Litigation Counsel at Whatnot, you will take ownership of the strategy and execution for all contentious matters, ensuring that the company is well-prepared to handle any legal challenges that arise. You will lead the litigation process, from initial assessment through resolution, and will be responsible for developing and implementing effective legal strategies that align with the company's goals.
You will work closely with cross-functional teams to identify potential legal risks and develop proactive measures to address them. This includes conducting thorough legal research, drafting legal documents, and representing the company in negotiations and court proceedings as necessary. Your role will also involve advising on regulatory compliance and ensuring that the company's practices align with applicable laws and regulations.
In addition to managing litigation, you will play a key role in shaping the company's response to regulatory investigations and enforcement actions. You will collaborate with various teams to ensure that the company's messaging is consistent and that all regulatory responses are well-coordinated.
Your expertise will be invaluable in helping Whatnot navigate the complexities of the legal landscape as it continues to grow and innovate in the e-commerce space. You will have the opportunity to influence the company's legal strategy and contribute to its overall success.
What we offer
Whatnot offers a dynamic work environment where innovation and collaboration are at the forefront. You will be part of a team that is passionate about redefining e-commerce and creating a vibrant community for buyers and sellers. The company values diversity and encourages employees to bring their unique perspectives to the table.
We provide competitive compensation and benefits, along with opportunities for professional growth and development. As a member of the Whatnot team, you will have the chance to make a meaningful impact on the future of commerce and help shape the company's legal strategy in a rapidly evolving industry.
