Anthropic is hiring a Trade Compliance Counsel to provide strategic legal advice on U.S. and international trade compliance matters. You'll work on sanctions and export controls compliance programs in New York City, San Francisco, or Washington, DC.
Job Description
Who you are
You have a strong background in trade compliance, particularly in U.S. and international sanctions and export control laws. Your expertise includes advising on the application of regulations such as OFAC sanctions programs, the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), and the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). You are skilled in developing compliance programs that align with business operations and commercial transactions, ensuring that they support the mission of creating safe and beneficial AI systems.
You possess excellent analytical skills and the ability to interpret complex legal frameworks. Your communication skills enable you to convey legal concepts clearly to non-legal stakeholders, fostering collaboration across teams. You are proactive in identifying compliance risks and developing strategies to mitigate them, ensuring that the organization adheres to all relevant regulations.
What you'll do
In this role, you will provide legal counsel on various trade compliance matters, advising on the implications of sanctions and export controls on Anthropic's products and services. You will support the development and maturation of compliance programs, creating policies that reflect best practices in trade compliance. Your responsibilities will include conducting risk assessments, providing training to staff on compliance issues, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure compliance is integrated into business operations.
You will play a critical role in shaping Anthropic's approach to trade compliance as the company scales. This includes staying updated on changes in trade regulations and advising the organization on necessary adjustments to compliance programs. You will also be involved in monitoring compliance activities and reporting on the effectiveness of the compliance programs to senior management.
