Overview

Apple is seeking a Senior SoC Physical Design Engineer to lead physical design implementation from RTL to GDS. You'll work with cross-functional teams on high-performance and low-power designs, utilizing skills in physical design methodologies and tools.

Job Description

Who you are

You are a seasoned Physical Design technical leader with deep expertise in high-performance and low-power design — your experience spans over 3 years in the industry, where you've tackled complex physical design challenges. You possess a strong understanding of partition level P&R implementation, including floorplanning, clock and power distribution, and timing closure. Your interpersonal skills enable you to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, driving methodologies and best-known methods to streamline physical design work.

You have a proven track record of executing successful tapeouts in deep submicron technology, demonstrating your ability to meet stringent schedule and die size requirements. Your knowledge of physical design construction and analysis flows, along with your experience with large SoC designs exceeding 20 million gates and frequencies over 1GHz, sets you apart as a leader in this field. You are motivated to solve challenging timing closure issues and optimize area and power, ensuring that your designs meet the highest standards.

Desirable

You are knowledgeable in industry-standard tools and understand their capabilities and underlying algorithms, which allows you to leverage the best tools for your design tasks. Your ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly makes you a valuable asset to any team.

What you'll do

In this highly visible role at Apple, you will be responsible for all aspects of physical design implementation from RTL to GDS, including PnR, bump/RDL, STA, physical verification, EMIR, and sign-off. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to develop efficient chip and IP physical architectures, taking into account physical design constraints early in the design cycle. Your role will involve driving methodologies and developing guidelines and checklists to enhance the physical design process.

You will serve as the primary technical contact for your focus area, tackling more challenging timing closure issues and optimizing area and power. Your expertise will guide the team in executing designs that meet both performance and efficiency goals. You will also be involved in mentoring junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and experience to foster their growth within the team.

What we offer

At Apple, you will be part of a collaborative and innovative environment where your contributions will directly impact the future of technology. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, along with opportunities for professional development and career advancement. You will work alongside some of the brightest minds in the industry, contributing to projects that push the boundaries of technology and design.

Join us in shaping the future of high-performance and low-power designs, and be part of a team that values diversity and inclusion. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement — your unique perspective could be just what we need.
