Overview

Datadog is seeking a Senior Engineer to join their eBPF APM team, focusing on building a zero-instrumentation observability solution. You'll work closely with Linux systems and require strong skills in C/C++ and Go, along with a good understanding of networking protocols.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a strong background in systems-level engineering with a deep understanding of Linux — your experience allows you to work closely with the kernel and tackle performance-sensitive problems. You are comfortable with low-level networking and have a strong desire to dive into eBPF, ideally with prior experience in this area. Proficiency in C/C++ and Go is essential, and familiarity with networking protocols and TLS internals will give you an edge in this role.

You thrive in high-impact environments and enjoy solving complex technical challenges — your systems-level thinking enables you to design robust solutions that can scale effectively. You are a collaborative team player who can lead design and implementation efforts while contributing to roadmap planning. Your ability to communicate effectively across teams ensures that the observability solutions you develop remain frictionless for users.

Desirable

Experience with distributed tracing and a strong understanding of protocol versioning will be advantageous. You are eager to learn and adapt to new technologies, particularly in the realm of observability and kernel technology.

What you'll do

As a Senior Engineer on the eBPF APM team, you will be responsible for building a zero-instrumentation observability solution that automatically discovers services on every host. You will work on decoding traffic across multiple protocols and ensuring high-fidelity metrics in complex, real-world environments. Your role will involve leading design and implementation efforts, contributing to the technical roadmap, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance the robustness and scalability of the solution.

You will tackle challenges related to TLS detection across diverse languages and runtimes, ensuring that the observability solution performs reliably in production systems. Your expertise will be crucial in classifying Layer 7 protocols and decoding service-level traffic, which will directly impact the quality of metrics reported by the system.

What we offer

At Datadog, you will join a high-impact team that is dedicated to shaping the future of observability through cutting-edge kernel technology. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds. You will have the opportunity to work on ambitious technical challenges and contribute to a solution that is critical for our users' success. We offer a collaborative work environment where your contributions will be recognized and valued.
