Job Description
Who you are
You are a PhD student with a strong passion for materials science or chemistry, eager to apply your knowledge in a practical setting. You are comfortable working in a wet lab environment and have completed relevant research or coursework focused on polymers. Your familiarity with CAD programs, particularly SolidWorks, allows you to visualize and design materials effectively. Additionally, you possess basic programming skills in Python, which will aid in your research and development tasks. A background in organic chemistry or plastic engineering is also part of your qualifications, making you well-suited for this role.
What you'll do
As a Materials Intern at Formlabs, you will work closely with our Materials team on a PhD-level R&D project in our materials development lab. Your primary responsibility will be to develop, formulate, and test new materials that have not been used in 3D printing before. Each experiment you conduct will play a crucial role in addressing new challenges in the field of 3D printing. You will have the opportunity to engage in hands-on problem-solving, contributing to real products and innovations. This internship will not only enhance your technical skills but also provide you with valuable experience in a collaborative and innovative environment.
What we offer

The internship is full-time and will take place onsite in Somerville, MA, from May/June to August 21, 2026. The bi-weekly pay range for this role is between $3,000 and $3,300 USD, depending on your skills and qualifications. While this position does not offer housing or relocation assistance, it provides a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a leading company in the 3D printing industry.
