Who you are

You are a compassionate and dedicated Behavioral Health Counselor with experience in providing clinical support and counseling services. You understand the unique challenges faced by older Black/African American men, particularly in relation to mental health issues and substance use disorders. Your ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team is essential, as you will be partnering with Barber Health Advocates and a Certified Peer SUD Specialist to deliver culturally responsive therapy. You are flexible and willing to adjust your schedule to meet the needs of the community, including working evenings and weekends when necessary.

You have a strong commitment to social justice and understand the importance of addressing systemic injustices. You are passionate about empowering individuals and families to achieve stability and thrive, and you believe in the power of community-based support. Your experience in case management and therapeutic group facilitation will be invaluable in this role, as you work to provide immediate triage and support to those in need.

What you'll do

As a Behavioral Health Counselor at GLIDE, you will be a core member of an innovative, multidisciplinary team operating within a barbershop setting. Your primary focus will be to provide proactive, low-threshold clinical support and counseling services to older Black/African American men experiencing mental health issues, substance use disorders, and social isolation. You will work closely with Barber Health Advocates to facilitate therapeutic groups and provide culturally responsive therapy in a trusted community space.

You will play a central role in linking individuals to GLIDE’s continuum of care, with a specialized focus on overdose prevention and Medication for Opioid Use Disorder (MOUD) navigation. Your responsibilities will include conducting assessments, developing treatment plans, and providing ongoing support to clients as they navigate their recovery journeys. You will also be responsible for documenting client progress and collaborating with other team members to ensure comprehensive care.
