Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in a Technical or Engineering field or equivalent practical experience, along with at least 7 years of experience in procurement and supply chain management. Your background includes commodity management or sourcing within the optical transceivers or transmission category, where you've honed your skills in agreement negotiation and supplier development. You also possess a strong understanding of optics manufacturing and optical supply chain processes, which is complemented by your strategic business planning and execution capabilities.

Your experience with data center, networking, and optics commodities has equipped you with the knowledge to navigate complex supply chain challenges. You are proficient in spreadsheet software and SQL, and you have a knack for scripting, which allows you to analyze data effectively. Your familiarity with new and evolving optics technologies in the data center space positions you as a valuable asset in this role.

What you'll do

As a Commodity Manager at Google, you will define and execute sourcing strategies for optical technologies, ensuring that the company has the necessary supplies and equipment to support innovative product development. You will collaborate closely with engineering teams on New Product Introduction (NPI) initiatives, acting as a key liaison to facilitate communication and alignment on project goals. Your role will involve optimizing the total cost of ownership for Google's global infrastructure, where even minor savings on hardware can significantly impact the company's bottom line.

You will be responsible for mitigating supply chain risks and measuring partner performance through regular business reviews, ensuring quality and continuous improvement in supplier relationships. Your high level of industry expertise will keep you informed about supplier and market conditions, which will inform your sourcing strategies and negotiations. You will communicate status and risks to management, ensuring that the supply chain remains flexible and responsive to changing demands.
