Overview

Google is hiring a Senior Mechanical Test Engineer to evaluate and improve mechanical structures and assemblies. You'll work with SolidWorks and Creo for 3D design and testing methodologies. This position requires 4+ years of experience in a Mechanical Engineering environment.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Product Design, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, along with 4 years of experience in a Mechanical Engineering technical environment. You are skilled in hardware evaluation methodologies, including lab measurements, environmental stress testing, performance monitoring, and test automation. Your experience includes debugging failures during test execution and conducting strain gauge measurements at both board and chip levels.

You have a strong background in conducting and leading failure analysis and root cause investigations. With a Master's or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, you bring an additional year of experience in technical leadership. You are familiar with shock and vibe testing, including the use of accelerometers, and have experience with ASIC and Printed Circuit Board Assembly (PCBA) testing, as well as Solid-State Drives (SSD) and Hard Disk Drives (HDD) testing.

Your proficiency in SolidWorks and Creo for 3D design and drawings is complemented by your experience in hand-calculations and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) for structural and thermal analysis. You are committed to ensuring that equipment is reliable and compliant, and you thrive in a Research and Development (R&D) lab environment where you design test equipment for prototypes.

What you'll do

In this role, you will evaluate mechanical structures and assemblies for actual fitting and perform engineering tests, including vibration, shock, and packaging tests. You will design, produce, and assemble mechanical parts and assemblies for products and test fixtures using basic machine shop tools and equipment. Setting up and conducting tests of complete units and parts will be a key responsibility, as well as investigating proposals for improving structures and assembly.

You will collaborate closely with the development team to ensure that test scripts are effective and that failures are debugged efficiently. Your leadership in conducting failure analysis will help drive improvements in product design and testing methodologies. You will also manage documentation control, work instructions, and partnerships with JDM/CM to ensure that all processes are streamlined and effective.

What we offer

At Google, you will be part of a dynamic team that values innovation and collaboration. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, along with opportunities for professional growth and development. You will work in a supportive environment that encourages creativity and problem-solving, allowing you to make a significant impact on our products and technologies.
