Google is hiring a Senior Hardware Performance Test Engineer to lead a team in evaluating hardware performance for Machine Learning systems. You'll work with Linux and Python to implement test automation and data analysis. This position requires 4 years of experience in a hardware development lab.

Job Description

Who you are

You have a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a specialized field, along with at least 4 years of experience working in a hardware development lab technical environment. If you have an advanced degree, 3 years of experience will suffice. You possess strong experience with Linux and software scripting languages, particularly Python, which you have used in various hardware evaluation methodologies.

Your background includes hands-on experience with hardware evaluation methodologies, including lab measurements, performance monitoring, test automation, and data analysis. You are familiar with multiple disciplines related to hardware testing, qualification, and manufacturing, such as signal integrity, power circuit testing, and optical testing. You have the ability to read and understand schematics, datasheets, and technical work instructions, which is crucial for this role.

You are an excellent communicator, capable of coordinating and managing the needs of multiple lab users. Your leadership skills will shine as you lead a team of cross-discipline test engineers, ensuring that tests of end-to-end Machine Learning system designs are well-defined, implemented, and executed.

Desirable

A Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field would be a plus. Experience with other Unix operating systems, such as Ubuntu or RHEL, and shell scripting will enhance your candidacy. Knowledge of computer systems, including physical, functional, logical, mechanical, electrical, software, and thermal aspects, will be beneficial.

What you'll do

In this role, you will lead a team of engineers to define, implement, and execute tests for Machine Learning systems involving CPUs, DDR memory, storage, and specialized ML ASICs. You will provide integrated software to synchronize test execution on the Device-under-Test (DUT) with external smart measurement instrumentation. Your contributions will be vital in project planning within hardware development labs, ensuring that adequate resources are allocated as required.

You will be responsible for developing and executing comprehensive test plans, analyzing test results, and providing insights to improve hardware performance. Collaborating with hardware and software designers, you will ensure that the testing processes align with project goals and timelines. Your role will also involve mentoring junior engineers and fostering a collaborative environment within the team.

What we offer
