Who you are

You have a strong background in analytics engineering with a focus on data modeling and transformation. With experience in SQL and Python, you've built new analyses and supported existing ones, ensuring data quality and alignment with business logic. You understand the importance of applying software engineering principles like version control and continuous integration to the analytics codebase. Your expertise in data visualization tools allows you to help stakeholders explore and understand their data effectively.

You are skilled in optimizing SQL query performance and have experience with relational datastores and DAG tooling such as Dagster or Airflow. Your familiarity with cloud-based infrastructure, including AWS and GCP, enhances your ability to manage data pipelines efficiently. You are also knowledgeable about document, graph, or schema-less datastores, which adds depth to your data engineering capabilities.

What you'll do

As a Lead Analytics Engineer at Newsela, you will be responsible for applying data engineering best practices to analytics code, transforming raw data into actionable business insights. You will work closely with stakeholders to define business logic and data expectations, ensuring that the data sets you provide are clean and organized for end users. Your role will involve building and maintaining composable data models, as well as implementing validation checks and automated testing procedures to manage data quality in your ETL/ELT pipelines.

You will provide expert code reviews and mentorship to other engineers in the data space, fostering a collaborative environment where knowledge sharing is encouraged. Your ability to create data visualizations will help stakeholders understand the data visualization tools available to them, driving a change in the usage of data across the organization. You will also expand the data warehouse with clean data ready for analysis, ensuring that the resulting datastores align with expected business logic.
