Overview

Nooks is hiring a Staff Software Engineer specializing in Voice AI to architect and improve real-time voice infrastructure. You'll work with technologies like WebRTC and Twilio to ensure high-quality audio/video calling. This position requires 6-10+ years of backend engineering experience.

Job Description

Who you are

You have 6–10+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly with real-time audio/video or telephony systems — you've built and maintained scalable infrastructures that handle high volumes of calls while ensuring quality and reliability. Your hands-on experience with technologies like WebRTC, SIP, and Twilio means you're well-versed in the nuances of voice communication and can troubleshoot complex issues effectively.

You possess a strong foundation in distributed systems and low-latency infrastructure — you understand the challenges of maintaining quality of service (QoS) in real-time applications and have a track record of optimizing latency, jitter, and packet loss. Your debugging skills are top-notch, allowing you to quickly identify and resolve issues that may arise in call flows.

What you'll do

In this role, you will own the backend infrastructure for real-time audio/video calling, ensuring that the dialer scales reliably to handle 10× volume. You'll architect and improve the real-time voice infrastructure using technologies like WebRTC and Twilio, focusing on delivering exceptional call quality and meeting SLA targets globally. Your responsibilities will include building services for advanced features such as call transfers, monitoring, and recordings, as well as developing observability and debugging tools for call flows.

You will partner closely with Product and Support teams to enable new audio/video features and ensure fast issue resolution. Your expertise will guide the team in implementing best practices for infrastructure management and performance optimization, contributing to the overall success of Nooks' AI Sales Assistant Platform.
