You have extensive experience in employment law, ideally with a focus on global employment and immigration matters. You understand the complexities of employment regulations in various jurisdictions, including the U.S., India, and Mexico, and can provide practical, risk-balanced advice to business leaders. Your strong communication skills enable you to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams, ensuring that legal considerations are integrated into the employee life cycle from recruitment to termination.

You are proactive in identifying potential legal issues and are skilled at developing strategies to mitigate risks. Your ability to navigate complex legal landscapes and provide clear, actionable guidance is essential in supporting Oportun's mission of delivering affordable credit to underserved communities. You thrive in a diverse and inclusive environment, valuing the perspectives of others and fostering a culture of belonging.

What you'll do

As the Director, Global Employment & Immigration Counsel, you will be a key member of the Legal team, providing counsel on employment law matters that impact the employee life cycle. You will work closely with Oportun’s People Experience team and business leaders to ensure compliance with employment laws in the countries where the company operates. Your role will involve advising on recruitment practices, employee relations, and termination processes, ensuring that Oportun maintains a fair and equitable workplace.

You will also manage all employment-related legal matters, including drafting and reviewing employment contracts, policies, and procedures. Your expertise will be crucial in navigating immigration issues for employees working in different countries, ensuring compliance with local laws and regulations. You will play a vital role in training and educating internal stakeholders on employment law matters, fostering a culture of legal awareness within the organization.
