SpaceX is hiring a Build Engineer for the Super Heavy Booster team to develop and qualify manufacturing processes. You'll focus on design for manufacturing and automation to enhance production efficiency. This role requires a degree in engineering and experience in manufacturing processes.
Job Description
Who you are
You have a Bachelor's or advanced degree in aerospace engineering, manufacturing engineering, materials engineering, mechanical engineering, or a related field. You possess a strong understanding of manufacturing processes and have experience in developing and qualifying techniques for high-rate production. Your background includes designing precision tooling and implementing automation to improve efficiency and quality in manufacturing environments.
You are skilled in developing acceptance testing for manufacturing processes and have a keen eye for detail, ensuring that all tools and techniques meet high standards of quality. You have experience working closely with design engineering teams, influencing flight design and vehicle architecture through your insights on design for manufacturing improvements. You are proactive in managing the transition of parts and assemblies from development to high-rate production, always looking for ways to challenge and simplify requirements to optimize processes.
Desirable
Experience in aerospace manufacturing or a similar high-tech industry is a plus. Familiarity with poka-yoke systems and in-situ inspection techniques will enhance your ability to contribute effectively to the team.
What you'll do
As a Build Engineer on the Super Heavy Booster team, you will be responsible for developing and qualifying processes for high-rate, mixed-product manufacturing of propulsion, avionics, and welded structural assemblies. You will focus on design for manufacturing, implementing poka-yoke systems, and increasing product yield through automation to minimize takt and cycle times. Your role will involve developing and performing acceptance testing of manufacturing processes, techniques, and tools to enable efficient and high-rate manufacturing.
You will design and implement precision tooling to eliminate assembly errors, improve quality, and minimize cycle time. Automating novel processes will be a key part of your responsibilities, ensuring repeatability on high-rate manufacturing lines. You will work closely with design engineering teams to influence flight design and vehicle architecture, integrating design for manufacturing improvements into the overall process.
Additionally, you will develop and/or automate in-situ inspection techniques to increase yield and decrease cycle time. Managing the transition of parts and assemblies from development to high-rate production will be crucial, as you challenge and simplify requirements to optimize processes and reduce overhead.
What we offer
At SpaceX, you will be part of a mission-driven team dedicated to making space travel accessible and sustainable. We offer competitive compensation and benefits, including health insurance, retirement plans, and opportunities for professional growth. You will work in a collaborative environment where innovation is encouraged, and your contributions will directly impact the future of space exploration.
