Overview
SpaceX is seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer for the Starship Tooling team to design and build critical production assets for the Starship launch vehicle. You'll utilize your expertise in NX and AutoCAD to create detailed models and engineering prints. This role is based at the Starbase facility in Texas.
Job Description
Who you are
You have 5+ years of experience in mechanical engineering, specifically in machine design and production processes. Your background includes designing and activating custom machinery and infrastructure, enabling efficient production and handling of complex systems. You are skilled in collaborating with cross-functional teams, influencing vehicle design, and maximizing production rates through innovative engineering solutions. Your technical knowledge encompasses structural sizing, mechanism design, and hardware fabrication, allowing you to deliver results on challenging projects. You are proficient in creating detailed models and engineering prints using NX, and you perform engineering hand calculations and analysis to ensure optimal design. Your experience also includes supporting machine activation and collaborating with controls engineering teams to conduct development testing.
Desirable
Experience with advanced manufacturing techniques and familiarity with aerospace production environments will be beneficial. A strong understanding of controls engineering and automation processes is a plus, as is the ability to work on designs implemented across multiple sites.
What you'll do
As a Senior Mechanical Engineer on the Starship Tooling team, you will be responsible for designing, building, and activating custom machinery that is critical for the production of the Starship launch vehicle. You will develop the Starfactory of the future, enabling rapid build, test, and operation of SpaceX's transport architectures. Your role will involve collaborating closely with vehicle engineers to influence design and manufacturing processes, ensuring that production rates are maximized. You will utilize your technical expertise to execute on structural sizing, mechanism design, and hardware fabrication, delivering results on various projects. Additionally, you will create detailed models and engineering prints in NX, perform engineering hand calculations, and analyze structures and mechanisms to ensure they meet design specifications. You will also create manufacturing plans for internal teams and support machine activation with the controls engineering team, performing development testing as needed.
