Overview
The Exploration Company is hiring a Senior Spacecraft Flight Computing Engineer to develop and maintain real-time embedded computing systems for spacecraft avionics. You'll work with Linux, RTOS, and various networking protocols. This role requires expertise in fault-tolerant computing and hardware design.
Job Description
Who you are
You have extensive experience in developing real-time embedded computing systems, particularly in the context of spacecraft avionics. Your expertise in fault-tolerant computing techniques ensures reliable operation in challenging environments, such as those affected by radiation. You are proficient in both RTOS and Linux, with a strong focus on optimizing system performance and reliability. Your background includes hands-on hardware design, where you have utilized tools like Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout, emphasizing radiation-tolerant design practices.
You possess a solid understanding of IP networking protocols, including Time-Sensitive Networking (TSN) and Precision Time Protocol (PTP), which are crucial for enabling deterministic communication across spacecraft subsystems. Your experience with FPGA design using VHDL and Verilog allows you to incorporate advanced mitigation strategies to enhance system resilience. You thrive in collaborative environments and are eager to contribute to innovative projects that push the boundaries of space exploration.
What you'll do
In this role, you will design, implement, and maintain real-time embedded computing systems for spacecraft avionics, ensuring they meet the rigorous demands of space environments. You will apply your knowledge of fault-tolerant computing techniques to develop systems that can withstand radiation-induced anomalies. Your responsibilities will include optimizing RTOS and Linux-based environments, focusing on kernel configuration, bootloader development, and device driver implementation.
You will also engage in hardware design tasks, where you will be responsible for schematic capture, PCB layout, and component selection using Altium Designer. Your work will emphasize radiation-tolerant design practices to ensure the reliability of spacecraft systems. Additionally, you will develop, synthesize, and validate FPGA designs using VHDL and Verilog, implementing strategies such as Triple Modular Redundancy (TMR) and Error Correction Code (ECC) to enhance system robustness.
As part of your role, you will design, configure, and troubleshoot IP networking protocols, focusing on TSN to facilitate synchronized communication across various spacecraft subsystems. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that all systems are integrated effectively and meet mission requirements. Your contributions will play a vital role in the success of The Exploration Company's innovative space missions.
