Job Description
Who you are
You have a strong background in thermal protection systems (TPS) and are eager to contribute to the design and optimization of spacecraft. Your experience includes collaborating with mechanical, thermal, and CAD engineers to integrate aerodynamic and aerothermal requirements into spacecraft design. You are skilled in conducting sensitivity analyses and trade studies to evaluate design variables impacting reentry performance. You have a passion for leading experimental campaigns for material characterization and analyzing data from tests and simulations to improve material models and TPS designs.
You possess excellent communication skills, allowing you to generate technical reports and presentations that effectively communicate findings and recommendations to stakeholders. Your ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams is essential, as you will be part of the Vehicle Design Team, reporting to the Principal Aerothermal Engineer and the Vehicle Design Lead.
What you'll do
As a TPS Material Response Engineer, you will evaluate and optimize the thermal protection system design and performance of the Nyx space vehicle. You will work closely with mechanical, thermal, and CAD engineers to ensure the spacecraft's structural integrity during reentry. Your responsibilities will include designing and optimizing TPS to manage heat flux, performing sensitivity analyses, and conducting plasma tests. You will lead experimental campaigns for material characterization and analyze data to improve TPS designs. Your role will continually evolve as you collaborate with GNC, Design, and AIT teams to integrate their requirements into the spacecraft design.
