Who you are
5+ years of backend engineering experience building production systems at scale — you've led complex projects that involve real-time data processing and have a strong understanding of safety-critical systems. You possess deep expertise in Java and Python, and you're comfortable working with large datasets and machine learning technologies to enhance system performance.
You have experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including product managers and designers, to deliver impactful solutions. Your strong communication skills enable you to build strategic relationships with stakeholders and guide technical discussions effectively.
What you'll do
As a Senior Staff Backend Engineer, you will lead large, cross-team technical initiatives that span multiple platform teams. You will design and evolve backend systems that ingest, process, and analyze high-volume sensor and telematics data, ensuring that every Uber trip is made safer through your contributions. You will collaborate closely with engineering leaders and partner teams to drive organizational goals and deliver on complex projects from early design through production rollout.
You will also mentor junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and collaboration within your team. Your role will involve not just coding but also influencing the technical direction of projects and ensuring that best practices are followed across teams. You will be at the forefront of developing systems that have a real-world impact on road safety and insurance, making every trip safer for users.
