Job Description
Who you are
You have a B.S. in Computer Science or a similar technical field, or equivalent practical experience. With over 5 years of industry experience, you have a strong background in software engineering, particularly in developing and deploying machine learning models. Your expertise includes statistical analysis, which you apply to validate large-scale changes in data processing systems. You are comfortable working with backend infrastructure and have experience in building systems that can scale effectively to support extensive mapping projects.
You possess a deep understanding of the challenges associated with autonomous driving technology and are passionate about improving access to mobility. Your experience includes collaborating with cross-functional teams to evolve data formats and enhance automation processes. You thrive in environments where you can leverage your technical skills to solve complex problems and contribute to innovative solutions.
Desirable
Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or GCP is a plus, as is familiarity with data storage solutions and processing frameworks. You are also encouraged to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds.
What you'll do
In this role, you will evaluate and launch machine learning models that automatically generate maps from raw data, contributing to the development of Waymo's autonomous driving capabilities. You will work closely with onboard teams to evolve Waymo’s mapping format, ensuring it is more automation-friendly and efficient. Your responsibilities will include applying statistical analysis to validate significant changes in the mapping systems, ensuring accuracy and reliability.
You will build backend infrastructure for storing and processing various forms of map data, which is crucial for the scalability of our systems. Your work will directly impact the mapping of the entire world, supporting Waymo's mission to enhance safety and mobility through autonomous driving technology. You will collaborate with multiple teams within Waymo, sharing insights and data to improve overall system performance and user experience.
What we offer
Waymo offers a competitive salary range of $204,000—$259,000 USD, along with eligibility for an annual bonus program and equity incentive plan.
