Skills & Technologies
Overview
Waymo is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to build infrastructure for evaluating the Waymo Driver's capabilities. You'll work with Python and Machine Learning technologies in a hybrid role based in Mountain View or San Francisco. Salary range: $204,000—$259,000 USD.
Job Description
Who you are
You have 5+ years of experience in software engineering, particularly in developing scalable systems that handle complex data processing tasks. Your background includes a strong understanding of machine learning principles and their application in real-world scenarios. You are proficient in Python and have experience with containerization technologies like Docker, which you have used to streamline development workflows and improve deployment processes. Your familiarity with cloud platforms, particularly AWS, allows you to design and implement robust solutions that leverage cloud capabilities effectively. You are a collaborative team player who enjoys working in cross-functional teams, and you have a knack for communicating complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders. You are driven by a mission to improve safety and efficiency in autonomous driving technologies, and you are excited about the opportunity to contribute to innovative projects that have a real-world impact.
Desirable
Experience with simulation frameworks and data pipelines is a plus, as is familiarity with autonomous vehicle technologies. You have a keen interest in the intersection of software engineering and machine learning, and you are eager to apply your skills to enhance the capabilities of autonomous systems.
What you'll do
In this role, you will be responsible for building the infrastructure necessary to administer a "virtual driver's test" for the Waymo Driver. This involves designing, implementing, and operating scalable simulation data pipelines that evaluate the driving capabilities of the Waymo Driver. You will work closely with the Driver Understanding and Evaluation (DUE) team to improve the signal quality provided by the virtual driver's test and enhance the quality of individual simulations as well as the overarching simulation workflows. Your work will help determine whether the results of the virtual driver's test are predictive of the Waymo Driver's real-world driving behavior. You will also have the opportunity to apply machine learning models from partner teams and contribute to their development, thereby improving the efficiency of the virtual driver's test.
What we offer
Waymo offers a competitive salary range of $204,000—$259,000 USD, along with eligibility for a discretionary annual bonus program and an equity incentive plan. You will also enjoy a generous benefits program that supports your well-being and work-life balance. In this hybrid role, you will have the flexibility to work from either our Mountain View or San Francisco office, collaborating with a talented team dedicated to advancing autonomous driving technology. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we value diverse perspectives and backgrounds in our team.
