Who you are
You have 5+ years of backend engineering experience, particularly in designing and implementing scalable systems that handle real-time data synchronization. Your expertise includes working with APIs and backend services, and you understand the intricacies of cloud and vehicle communication. You are comfortable with high-availability systems and have a strong grasp of the technologies that power user-facing applications.
Your technical skills include proficiency in gRPC and Protobuf, which you have used to build robust APIs that enhance user experiences. You are adept at architecting systems that require real-time data management and synchronization, ensuring seamless interactions between the cloud and autonomous vehicles. You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy working closely with cross-functional teams to deliver innovative solutions.
What you'll do
In this role, you will own the backend systems that power the in-car experience for Waymo's autonomous vehicles. You will design and build scalable backend services and APIs that facilitate features such as trip status updates, media streaming, and cabin controls. Your work will involve architecting high-availability systems that manage real-time synchronization of state between the cloud and the autonomous vehicle fleet.
You will collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineers to define the future of in-car interactions for autonomous ride-hailing. Your responsibilities will include ensuring that the backend systems are reliable, efficient, and capable of handling the demands of a growing user base. You will also be involved in code reviews and mentoring junior engineers, fostering a culture of learning and improvement within the team.
