You have a strong background in data science with a focus on risk and fraud analysis — your experience includes translating complex datasets into actionable insights that drive decision-making. You are proficient in SQL and Python, enabling you to manipulate and analyze large datasets effectively. You understand the nuances of fraud detection and prevention, having developed strategies that measure and mitigate risks in online marketplaces.
You possess excellent problem-solving skills and can communicate complex findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders — your ability to define and own KPIs related to fraud costs and prevention strategies is crucial. You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with engineering and operations teams to enhance marketplace performance and user trust.
What you'll do
In this role, you will generate insights that shape the direction of fraud prevention strategies at Whatnot — you will analyze the effectiveness of existing methods and partner with product and machine learning teams to implement improvements. Your responsibilities will include defining KPIs that measure the cost of fraud and its impact on users, as well as developing models that predict and prevent fraudulent activities.
You will work with cross-functional teams to ensure that the marketplace remains a safe and trusted space for users — your insights will directly influence product development and operational strategies. You will also be involved in continuous monitoring and analysis of fraud trends, adapting strategies as necessary to stay ahead of emerging threats.
