Overview

Enviva is seeking a Vessel Operator to manage bulk material loading and support port operations in Wilmington, NC. You'll ensure safe docking and loading processes while operating heavy equipment. This role requires experience in line handling and control room operations.

Job Description

Who you are

You have experience in vessel operations, particularly in loading bulk materials and ensuring safe docking and undocking processes. Your skills in line handling — pulling, cleating, and managing the order of lines thrown — are well-honed, and you understand the importance of safety in every operation. You are familiar with control room operations, ensuring that vessels are loaded correctly, managing load rates, gate control, and fine mitigation. Your ability to operate heavy equipment on vessels, such as loaders, cranes, and ship loaders, is a key asset in your role.

You are committed to maintaining safety standards, having completed necessary training such as man overboard training and shifting vessel requirements. You understand the importance of quality assurance and quality control, collecting samples and testing finished goods delivered by truck and rail. Your attention to detail ensures that all records are maintained accurately, and you are proactive in communicating with suppliers in a professional manner.

What you'll do

As a Vessel Operator at Enviva, you will be responsible for overseeing the docking, undocking, and mooring processes to ensure they are completed safely. You will handle lines during docking and undocking, ensuring that all procedures are followed meticulously. In the control room, you will monitor the loading process, adjusting load rates and managing gate controls to optimize efficiency. Operating heavy equipment such as loaders and cranes will be a regular part of your duties, and you will be expected to maintain a clean and safe working environment.

You will also be involved in receiving pellets into the port, recording data for accurate billing, and ensuring that the scale area meets safety criteria. Your role will require you to keep the scale and ramps clean and free of debris, contributing to the overall safety and efficiency of operations. You will communicate effectively with suppliers, ensuring that all interactions are professional and courteous.

In addition to operational duties, you will collect samples and conduct quality tests on finished goods, maintaining QA/QC records and adhering to Quality Standard Operating Procedures. Your analytical skills will come into play as you assess equipment performance and make necessary adjustments to achieve desired throughput and quality results. Housekeeping will also be part of your responsibilities, as you will operate mobile equipment to keep the area neat and orderly.

What we offer

Enviva offers a dynamic work environment where you can contribute to a renewable energy future. You will be part of a fast-growing, purpose-driven company that values safety and sustainability. We encourage you to apply even if your experience doesn't match every requirement, as we believe in fostering a diverse and inclusive workplace.
