You have a lived experience of recovery that you utilize to support and empower individuals facing mental illness and substance use disorders. Your ability to build trust and reduce stigma is essential in fostering connections with participants and guiding them towards available services. You are flexible and willing to work evenings and weekends to meet community needs, demonstrating your commitment to supporting others in their recovery journey.
You thrive in a collaborative environment, working alongside a multi-disciplinary team that includes Barber Health Advocates and a Behavioral Health Counselor. Your empathetic nature allows you to connect with individuals from diverse backgrounds, helping them navigate their challenges and promoting their overall wellness. You understand the importance of case management and recovery coaching in enhancing participants' stability and self-sufficiency.
What you'll do
As a SUD Peer Support Specialist, you will engage with individuals in a barbershop setting, providing support and guidance based on your own recovery experience. You will facilitate successful linkages to care within GLIDEβs continuum of services and community partners, ensuring participants are aware of the resources available to them. Your role will involve outreach efforts in the field and at community pop-up events, where you will promote wellness and growth mindsets among participants.
You will work closely with your team to create a welcoming and inclusive environment that encourages individuals to seek help and support. Your responsibilities will include conducting outreach, providing case management, and assisting participants in understanding their options for recovery and wellness. You will play a vital role in reducing stigma around mental health and substance use disorders, fostering a community of support and understanding.
