Who you are

You have 5+ years of experience in machine learning infrastructure engineering, with a strong focus on building scalable systems that support large AI/ML models. Your background includes hands-on experience with distributed training and ML accelerators, enabling you to design and optimize infrastructure for high-performance simulations. You are proficient in Python and have a deep understanding of frameworks like TensorFlow, which you have used to implement complex machine learning solutions. Your familiarity with Kubernetes allows you to manage containerized applications effectively, ensuring seamless deployment and scaling of ML workloads. You are comfortable working with cloud platforms, particularly AWS, to leverage their services for machine learning applications. You have experience with MLflow or similar tools for managing the machine learning lifecycle, from experimentation to deployment. You thrive in collaborative environments and enjoy mentoring junior engineers, sharing your knowledge and best practices to foster a culture of learning and innovation.

Desirable

Experience with large foundation models and their application in realistic simulations is a plus. Familiarity with simulation environments and the challenges of modeling real-world scenarios will help you excel in this role. What you'll do

In this role, you will lead the development of advanced AI/ML infrastructure that supports the Waymo Driver's simulation capabilities. You will design and implement scalable systems that can handle multi-billion parameter foundation models, ensuring they are optimized for performance and efficiency. Collaborating closely with the Simulator team, you will help create realistic environments for testing and training, utilizing your expertise in machine learning to enhance the fidelity and steerability of simulations. You will be responsible for architecting solutions that leverage distributed training techniques, enabling the team to innovate rapidly while maintaining high standards of quality. Your role will involve working with large datasets, employing best practices for data management and processing to ensure the integrity and usability of the data used in simulations. You will also engage in cross-functional collaboration, partnering with other engineering teams to align on infrastructure needs and share insights that drive the overall success of the Waymo Driver project.
